I received the same email too and I'm not sure. I do not understand very well what are the benefits of losing control of my images ...
You decide what you going to do?

Probably I'm not agree to participate after what I've read. In addition, it gives me the session is not legal.

PD: I'm in love with your gallery  ahaha

notice that the link is deviantart.net, which means that site isn't affiliated with the real deviantart.com

I've had the same email and I'm unsure about it too. It all seems legit to me, but I think you have to decide for yourself whether you feel comfortable giving someone else control over your images. For me, the possible gain (which looks to be small numbers or credits translated into money) isn't worth the risk of having potentially anybody use my photographs. It has to be a personal decision though. Hope this helps!

Love your art, as always

hey dear,
I also just got an email because of this stock thingie on friday...did you reply to this, that you don't want to parcipate or did you just ignore it :?
I am quite unsure about this, but think, it would be the best not to offer my own work to some strangers, so they can make some money with it...?!

Hello there,
Personally, I didn't reply. Usually I'll send an email back even if I'm not interested but after being so busy the whole thing slipped my mind. So yes, I did just ignore it!
If you are unsure about it then I'd trust your instincts and stay away from it. Once you join up you'd have no control over who can use your images or how they use them, so that is a risk you can only choose for yourself whether to take.
Its up to you!

thank you so much for your reply, dear
I didn't answer them too, because I am also very busy and all! (:
Really agree with the things you said, so no way they are getting my work! =P

Glad you've got it sorted out!
I also thought that it was silly because someone might be a photo for their set price in order to do some personal work, but someone else might pay the same price to use an image in a way that will earn them ££££s - unfair on them and on us!

You're welcome! Exactly - I think people too often assume that the only value of artists' work is financial. But our work means more than just money to us.

Thank you lovely, that means a lot to hear

Here's a link to DA's Stock Project Group, the official group of the Stock Project: [link] . Since you are not an active DA stocker, I'm not sure why they want you to participate, unless it is just because your photography is so fantastic (which it is! ;-)).

This project partners DA with the stock site Fotolia.com.

If you allowed your photos to be included in this project it would mean that you would be allowing people to use your photos in derivative works (such as photo-manipulations or vector art), and in non-professional projects such as school projects, church bulletins, etc.. It is my understanding that your photos could not be used in large professional projects such at book covers with large runs, but you should definitely read the details of all the licenses, because I'm not entirely certain of that. The stock agreement specifically states:

"Under this Agreement you are (i) licensing your images to DAI (ii) DAI is
agreeing to distribute and market the images it accepts or solicits from you
(“your images”) to interested users of stock photography, vectors and
films through affiliated stock companies or its own stock offering on or
affiliated with deviantART.com and (iii) DAI is agreeing to pay you royalties
when your images are licensed by users."

This means you are licensing your photos out to these people, and they are paying you royalties anytime someone uses them.

You are always still the copyright owner of your image, but you are giving up some rights. I was reading through everything in that link they sent you and it seems pretty complex. I think that your first step should be to read this document: [link] (the user agreement) thoroughly - especially the Your Copyright section. If you have any questions then I think you need to note back whoever sent you the initial note and demand clarification. Don't sign the rights to any of your photos until you are 100% sure of what you are getting into.

Payment details seem to be talked about here: [link] . It seems to be some sort of sliding scale from "25% to 63% for content sold via single-image download, or from $0.30 for content sold via subscription download". But since I'm not sure what they are charging per download or for subscriptions, I don't know what that adds up to for you dollar wise.

Hope this helps. I am a stock user, and have purchased stock from some other stock sites, but I have never offered up stock photos myself, and I am certainly not a legal expert on this matter, so I'm doing the best I can with the limited knowledge I have.

thank you very very much for your long and detailed comment ! it really informed me. and i decided not to agree on these terms, so i don't allow them to use my work. i don't want other people to use it and earn money with it..
